When You Need a Template
Most cushions are built on simple shapes. A template is only for the ones that aren't.
Curved Edge
Any cushion with a rounded or arched edge that won't sit square.
Asymmetric
The two sides don't match — a shape you can't mirror neatly.
Large Deviation
When the shape is off by more than a few millimetres, forcing it straight looks wrong.

Rule of thumb: keep it symmetric
We always prefer a symmetrical cushion because it works front or back, no matter which way it's flipped. If the deviation is tiny — about a millimetre — we treat it as a rectangle and it looks perfect. If it's a real difference you can see (around 10mm), we'd suggest a symmetric trapezoid. But if it has any curve or irregular detail, go straight to Template.
Two Ways to Share a Shape
Either one is perfect — pick whichever is easiest for you.
Send us a physical template
Trace your cushion's shape onto stiff cardboard or thick paper, cut it out, and post it to us. It's the most accurate option of all.

Send us a projection photo
Photograph your cushion straight from above. We'll send you a simple guide that shows exactly which points to measure.
- Shoot top-down, directly over the shape.
- Place a ruler in frame for scale.
- We'll tell you the key points to measure — then you order in the designer.
How It Works
Measure the biggest size, choose Template, and we take it from there.
Measure the maximum size
Measure the widest and deepest points of the cushion, edge to edge. We need the overall footprint first — the exact shape comes from your template or photo.
Choose Template in the designer
Select the Template option for your cushion. This tells our team you have a shape that needs a human eye, and we'll guide you through the rest.
Send a physical template — or a projection photo
Pick whichever is easiest. Post us a cardboard template, or send a top-down photo and we'll give you a short guide on which points to measure.
Confirm your size & order
If you sent a photo, enter the measurements from our guide in the designer. If you sent a physical template, we'll confirm everything with you before we cut.

What counts as an irregular shape?
Anything with a curve, an arc, or two sides that don't match. If it won't sit neatly in a rectangle, a circle or an L-shape, choose Template.
My cushion is only slightly off — do I really need a template?
Probably not. If the difference is about a millimetre, we treat it as a rectangle and it looks perfect. If it's a visible difference (around 10mm), we may suggest a symmetric trapezoid instead. You'd use a template only for real curves.
How do I send a physical template?
Trace your cushion onto stiff cardboard or thick paper, cut it out, write the width, depth and thickness on it, and post it to us. It's the most precise option.
What's a projection photo and how do I take one?
It's a top-down photo taken straight over the shape. Put a ruler in the frame for scale, then send it over. We reply with a short guide showing exactly which points to measure.
Can I just email you a photo and ask?
Absolutely. Send a photo of the cushion in its spot and we'll tell you what shape it is and how to measure it. We have plenty of experience — this is what we do.
Does the template have to be exact?
The closer the better, but don't stress. We build a small seam allowance in, and a soft cover compresses to fit. Better big than small — that's the golden rule.
